The Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation (KAZA) area is the largest conservation area in the world and includes protected areas in Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Angola. The conservation area is focussed on the Caprivi, Chobe and Victoria Falls, and this is the area which we will explore on this safari.

As the project grows so will the number of tourists to this area, so this is the perfect time to explore the smaller parks like Bwabwata, Mamili and Mudumu together with the world-famous Chobe National Park and the Victoria Falls. This safari provides a great balance between game drives, boat cruises, and cultural activities. We will start this safari in Katima Mulilo in the Caprivi and finish in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. This safari is also great as an extension to one of our Namibia and Zambia safaris and we included a number of great extension possibilities. We can also do this safari as a camping/self-catering trip.

DAY 1: Welcome to the Zambezi River

Our official starting point for this safari will be Katima Mulilo, Caprivi, Namibia. There are international flights to Livingstone (Zambia), Kasane (Botswana) and Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe)from which we will organize a transfer to Katima Mulilo. Once you have arrived safely and have settled into the lodge for tonight which is situated on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River, we will depart for a late afternoon sunset boat cruise to welcome you to this beautiful area. Dinner will be served on a deck overlooking the Zambezi River.

DAY 2: Kwando River and Bwabwata National Park

After breakfast, we will make our way towards to beautiful Kwando River. This river originates up in the Angolan highlands before making its way down to Namibia where it becomes the Linyanti River before becoming the Chobe River which flows into the Zambezi. We will go straight to one of the cultural villages in the area where we will gain a better insight to the lives of the local people. From here we will go our lodge where lunch will be waiting. After a short break to relax and settle in we will depart for an afternoon game drive in Bwabwata National Park in an open. Our lodge for tonight overlooks the Kwando River.
Bwabwata National Park, formerly known as the Caprivi Game Park, stretches for 200km between the Kwando and Okavango Rivers. It is one of the most scenic parks in the area the habitat varies between floodplains, Acacia Woodland and Teak Forest. The park is great for game viewing and has the highest Elephant concentration in the Caprivi. Other games that is found here are Lion, Buffalo, Leopard, Giraffe, Hippo, Warthog, Tsessebe, Sable, Lechwe, Sitatunga, and Wild Dogs. Bwabwata NP is also known for its prolific birdlife.

DAY 3: Mudumu and Mamili National Parks

After breakfast, we will make our way down to Mudumu National Park for a morning game drive. Mudumu is known for sightings of Elephant, Roan, Lechwe, Zebra, Blue Wildebeest, Buffalo, Wild Dogs, Impala, Warthog, and Lion. Once we exit this park we will continue on a short drive to Mamili National Park where we will spend the night in a beautiful lodge on one of the many small channels in the park.
Both Mudumu and Mamili National Parks are two of the hidden secrets in the Caprivi. Since both are accessible to 4×4 only, we include them in this itinerary to give people the opportunity to experience a sense of exploring. You never encounter many other tourists and vehicles in the parks. Mamili is known for sightings of Hippo, Elephant, Lion, big Buffalo herds, Kudu, Lechwe, Waterbuck, and its prolific birdlife. Bushwalks can also be arranged. Once we had lunch we will depart for an afternoon boat cruise or game drive depending on the season and which one is better for game viewing.

DAY 4: Botswana is calling

Today we will be up early and into the game drive vehicles for an early morning game drive in Mamili National Park. The lions in this amazing park are often active early in the mornings and we will hopefully be lucky enough to find them. Once we return we will enjoy a big breakfast before departing to Botswana where we will spend the next two nights. We will stop for lunch in Katima before crossing the border into Botswana at one of the most scenic border posts overlooking the Chobe River and set amongst huge Baobab trees.
From here we drive for 60km through Chobe National Park stopping at any worthwhile sightings before arriving at our lodge in Kasane. Our lodge tonight is situated on the banks of the Chobe River and what better way to welcome you to Botswana than with a sundowner drink in your hand watching the sunset over the Chobe River. If we get to Kasane early enough we can try and organize an extra afternoon boat cruise or game drive.

DAY 5: Chobe National Park

Today will be all about game viewing in one of the best parks in Africa, Chobe National Park. We will be up very early for a morning game drive in a private open 4×4 vehicle, followed by a big buffet breakfast and after relaxing during the heat of the day next to the pool we finish off with an afternoon boat cruise. We will again stay at the same lodge overlooking the Chobe River.

DAY 6: Victoria Falls

We will be up early for another morning game drive in a private 4×4 vehicle in Chobe National Park after which we will be back at the lodge for breakfast. From here we will cross the border into Zimbabwe which will be the third and last country that we visit on this safari. It is a short drive of about 70 km and we will continue to keep an eye open for wildlife along the way.
After arriving in Victoria Falls town we will continue straight to the falls which is also known as ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’ – The Smoke that Thunders. It is one of the most beautiful and most majestic waterfalls in the world and it is not difficult to see why the Victoria Falls are one of the 7 natural wonders of the world.
After lunch and settling into our lodge we will have the afternoon open for any of the following additional activities which is not included in the price: Helicopter flights over the falls and the game park (this is a brilliant experience and can be highly recommended), bungee jumping and sun-downer boat cruise on the Zambezi River.
We will also visit the local open air curio market on our way to the airport. Please note that dinner tonight is for your own account but we recommend dinner at the Boma for a fantastic African dining experience. Our lodge will be situated in Victoria Falls town itself.

DAY 7: Departure

After a relaxing breakfast and the extra activity of your choice, you will fly out of Victoria Falls International Airport or we will continue our safari with one of the possible extensions.

Possible Extensions

We tried to keep the safari fairly short to enable you to do a possible extension of your choice. We recommend a few days on a houseboat in Chobe National Park or spoil you with a fly-in safari to the Okavango Delta. Otherwise, we can continue the safari to include Hwange and/or Mana Pools National Parks in Zimbabwe. A trip to Kafue or Liuwa Plains National Park is also definitely worth it.
